Directed by Sheila Gatensby
Produced by Mary Nowlan
It’s 1938 in Holman, Indiana, and little Ralphie Parker wants just one thing for Christmas – a shiny new Red Ryder BB gun. But his mother, his teacher, and even Santa Claus insists, “You’ll shoot your eye out!” Rebuffed at every turn, Ralphie schemes to achieve his ultimate desire in time for Christmas. Based on the much-loved film, perfectly capturing childhood fantasy and the nostalgia of family Christmases past.

Characters and Actors (Playing ages are an indication only, but also illustrate the age relative to other roles)
Ralph (he/him), 35-45: The warm, and charismatic on-stage narrator of the show, based on the original author of the book that inspired A Christmas Story and the original narrator of the 1983 film. He still embodies the heart and ideals of his younger self, but now with more wisdom. Also plays Cowboy, Tree Lot Owner, Delivery Man, and Voice of a Neighbour.
Ralphie (he/him) 10-14: Cute and winsome, but not precious. Bright, but not precocious. A regular 10-year-old kid you wouldn’t mind having as a next-door neighbor. He’s determined and he has a wonderful imagination.
Mother(she/her), 30-45: Ralphie’s mother; she is the unseen glue holding the family together; undeterred by the antics of her family. More in charge of the family than the Old Man, but she would never let him know it. She is warm and affable, but not a pushover. A vibrant woman, she is always busy, especially in the kitchen. She is the secret engine that keeps the family running, keeping the household together with an impressive balancing act.
The Old Man (he/him), 30-45: Ralphie’s father; a loveable curmudgeon, prone to colourful language; a family man; a dreamer who never quite gets ahead. A guy with a good heart, though it’s buried beneath a sometimes-gruff exterior. He loves his family but doesn’t overtly show it. He usually expects the worst but is capable of excitement if the situation warrants. Also plays Santa Claus.
Randy (he/him) 6-8: Ralphie’s younger brother. Cute, cuddly, and whiny. Admires Ralphie but won’t admit it. He’s at the stage of childhood wherein he seems opposed to everything, but he’s still loveable – not a brat.
Miss Shields (she/her), 20-35: Ralphie’s teacher; a prim and proper role model for her students; spirited but stern when necessary. Also plays the voice of Schwartz’s Mother.
Flick (he/him) 10-14: Ralphie’s other best friend. Can’t refuse a triple dog dare. He’s a loyal friend; he wants to make a name for himself. Also plays Desperado One.
Schwartz (he/him )10-14: One of Ralphie’s best friends. He’s a bit of a know-it-all. He’s an observer, always tries to be reasonable, but quickly gets swept up in the excitement of the moment. Also plays Desperado Two.
Esther Jane Alberry (she/her)10-14: Classmate of Ralphie. She has a crush on Ralphie. She’s easy going, imaginative, and wears her heart on her sleeve.
Helen Weathers (she/her) 10-14: Classmate of Ralphie. The smartest student in the class. Very confident and self possessed. Sure of herself, and determined to win in everything- including her election as President of the United States
Scut Farkas (he/him)14-18: The schoolyard bully. His attendance at school is poor. He secretly wants friends but doesn’t know how to do that yet. Also plays Black Bart
